Wim Hof's Breathing Method vs. Dr. Buteyko's Method

Dr. Artour Rakhimov and Volker Schmitz discuss Wim Hof's method and the method of Dr. Buteyko that transformed the health conditions of thousands of people worldwide. Does Wim Hof's breathing have a relation to Buteyko breathing? It looks like a completely opposite idea as Wim Hof has people breathe a lot of air or hyperventilate. Dr. Artour Rakhimov made a separate web page about this topic. Dr. Buteyko's method relates to our unconscious or automatic breathing patterns throughout the day and night. The purpose of the Buteyko method works by slowing down our breathing to improve oxygen levels. People breathe more than the medical norm nowadays. They achieve small levels for the body-oxygen test. When people breathe too much air, they have less oxygen in their body. Dr. Buteyko restored the health of thousands of people with his method. When people restored their breathing, they had an excellent quality of life.

The Wim Hof method works by hyperventilation. Free divers have similar methods. The Wim Hof method does deliberate hyperventilation for temporary oxygen increases. Both methods have an area that includes adapting to cold. Dr. Buteyko would lay in the snow without any clothes. When people achieve higher levels for their body-oxygen test or control pause test, they enjoy the cold much more.

With having less than 20 seconds for the CP test they should not engage in any kind of ice baths or similar things. It can be very dangerous at those levels. Dr. Artour Rakhimov has procedures on his website that outlines how to prepare yourself for these activities in the cold. Being in the cold makes you want to hyperventilate and it becomes very tempting. If you are underwater as well it becomes even more dangerous.

Secondly, it is important to have a gradual transition to activities in the cold such as taking a cold shower. When taking a cold shower start with washing your limbs one by one. This gradual transition helps from being warm and then cold. For certain people they should not do any activities in the cold. People that are very sick have 10 to 15 seconds for the CP test. Dr. Artour Rakhimov knew a few people with this type of CP, they also tried cold showers and experienced infections. With more than 20 seconds for the CP test having a cold shower is very healthy for the body's oxygen levels.

Brown fats cells are needed for a healthy body. Humans are born with about 8 to 10 percent of these cells. The cells can generate heat by themselves. Polar bears have a lot more brown fat cells. When we are not exposed to the cold for a long time, our brown fat cells completely disappear. Online there are dozens of studies looking how to generate fat brown cells in the body. We just need more cold exposure to create them. Having lots of brown fat cells prevents cancer, diabetes, and many more health conditions. Also, it creates better breathing patterns. Having a cold shower is beneficial to increase body-oxygen levels.

Stretching and Breathing Mutual Benefits: Interview with Volker Schmitz

Volker Schmitz and Dr. Artour Rakhimov talk about how stretching exercises help breathing patterns and vice-versa. Volker has been teaching yoga, breathing exercises, kung fu and tai chi for over 15 years. Stretching can enhance breathing retraining and the other way around. The discussion on stretching for breathing begins first. In martial arts and yoga, there is a lot of stretching. Stretching can be intensive and in that case, it will enhance breathing retraining. Bob Cooley's book and website for this type of stretching. Volker advocates more intensive stretching.

Another layer has to do with energy channels. These are believed to exist in China and India. We can put it into perspective if we equate it with muscular or structural chains as they connect the whole body. This can be enhanced with stretching. The type of stretching is very important. In China, they were looking at nature to find out what animals were doing. For example, a cat uses a lot of force at the moment of the stretch. Check out Bob Cooley's book and website for this type of stretching. He spends a lot of time on this topic.

We have fascia that grows at night. It has to be dissolved. Stretching seems to be the most effective way to do this and this leads to better blood flow. There is also the nervous functioning that can be enhanced with better oxygen supply.

Next, is breathing for stretching. When you do breathing exercises, it increases oxygen supply to the organs of the body and muscles. It will lead to better brain function and concentration. Concentration is very important for movement. You need to do it with good technique and use a lot of force. You can only do this when your nervous system is prepared for these types of movements. These are only a few things that breathing can do. There is a layer of endurance that is also improved. With having 60 seconds for the control pause test or body-oxygen level you sleep less and have more time for stretching.

People these days breathe too much. In these talks, it refers to breathing at rest or automatic breathing patterns. This is discussed in detail on Dr. Artour Rakhimov's website www.normalbreathing.com. There are dozens of historical studies from 100 years ago that people breathed a lot less. Dr. Buteyko's norm was 60 seconds for the CP level and that is 8 breaths per minute at rest. When people achieve higher levels of oxygen they have much less sleep, more stamina, more concentration, more energy, extra motivation and exercise becomes a joy. With 15 to 20 seconds for the CP test, people complain about having chronic fatigue.

Clinical Trials of Buteyko Breathing Method in USSR/Russia

A variety of Russian trials for Buteyko Method is discussed. The first studies to be discussed are from 1990 in Kiev the Shevchenko Central hospital. People effected by the Chernobyl disaster were tested. They had symptoms related to their nervous system, blood pressure and so forth. Out of 50 people with radiation disease, 82% had improvements. These improvements were measured from their blood parameters and cardiovascular perimeters. They reduced their medication and there were no side effects. The Buteyko Method improves breathing closer to the medical norm. Slowing down breathing helped these people to recover.

The next clinical trial was for people with HIV-AIDS. Even though there were only 7 young people with AIDS the results were really good because they managed to get rid of their symptoms. Symptoms such as mood instability, fears and digestive complaints. The trial was for 3 and up to 7 to 9 days. People with 60 seconds for the body-oxygen test or control pause test can have a normal life quality. Complaints of the cardiovascular system, digestive health and other health complaints go away. People with later stages of HIV have about 10 to 15 seconds for the CP test. After the Buteyko technique, they would not need medications anymore. You can find translations of this trial on Dr. Artour Rakhimov's website Normalbreathing.com.

The next trail was conducted in 1991in Kiev. It was done with people having hepatitis B and liver cirrhosis. They had acute or chronic hepatitis. 28 out of 30 people had remission of their symptoms. They showed improvements in their blood test results. There was a 93% percent success rate for hepatitis b and liver cirrhosis. Liver cirrhosis is relatively easy to solve with breathing retraining. Western medicine provides only medication for these health conditions.

There was a clinical trial for cancer in 2001 that was published in an official Ukrainian oncology journal. A direct student of Dr. Buteyko, Dr. Pashinka applied the Buteyko technique on 120 students that had the initial stages of breast cancer. This is when a tumour goes from the breast to the lymph nodes. In 3 or 5 years, up to 25% of these people would die even though they would apply surgical removal of their tumour. The next step would be radiation and chemotherapy that has good clinical research to live longer. It also has criticism from alternative medicine that people feel awful during this time. All these techniques were applied, but they also applied breathing retraining of 2 hours for 3 years.

In 3 years, the control group had a mortality rate of 25%, but the group with breathing retraining had only 5% or 6%. The Buteyko rate was reduced by 6 times and used by a huge amount of people. Dr. Pashinka wrote that he only lost 2 patients in his group. These patients also had diabetes and heart disease. All students started with 10 seconds CP, this is a very low health state. Other students achieved 50 to 60 seconds CP.

Dr. Artour Rakhimov wrote a book about this subject called doctors that cure cancer. With recent discoveries in the ketogenic diet, the success rate of cancer is even more successful. Cancer feeds on blood glucose. When people eat glucose, their cancer even gets cancer. While eating a ketogenic diet prevents this from occurring.

Calisthenics, Acrobatics and Gymnastics Amazing Benefits from and for Breathing Retraining

Calisthenics, acrobatics, and gymnastics provide outstanding advantages compared to other activities by increasing body-oxygen levels. Volker Schmitz has been teaching Chinese calisthenics, acrobatics, and gymnastics for many years. Together with Dr. Artour Rakhimov, they discuss the questions, “How can breathing retraining help people practice these moving arts?” and “How these moving arts can improve their health and their body-oxygen levels?”

On the one hand, there are improvements in the muscular structure and oxygenation and regeneration of the muscles. We also have improvements in the psychological functioning and the ability to concentrate. Also, in joint functioning and the strength of the joints improves in gymnastics.

Proper breathing helps to physically recover faster from acrobatics, calisthenics gymnastics. This type of breathing is described as when we breathe much less in our unconscious or automatic breathing patterns. Most people over-breathe twice in their body-oxygen levels according to the medical norm. A hundred years ago, breathing 10 to 12 breaths per minute was the norm. Nowadays people's mental states include a lot of anxiety, panic attacks, depression etc.

What is the benefit for people that slowed down their breathing to the medical norm in relation to these moving ? Many people have more access to the muscles from improved nerve functioning. You do not only need big muscles for exercises, but proper breathing helps your performance by using all your muscles together.

The other benefit relates to losing weight. Even if you are a few kilos above weight it is very difficult to do a front flip. Also, endurance and sleep are improved by breathing. People that hyperventilate oversleep. Students with 60 seconds for the body-oxygen test sleep 4 and a half hours. They crave physical exercise and they do not complain about fatigue. They have joy from exercise.

All these kinds of acrobatic movements have a lot to do with the core of the body. For flips and handstands, you need a whole muscle chain that depends on core strength. Generally, gymnasts develop much faster in breathing retraining because of their control of the body and strength of their diaphragm. In the higher stages of calisthenics, they have a lot of mental strength. This mind state also shows up in breathing retraining. This allows you to relax.

The functionally of the muscles is the next point. Calisthenics with breathing retraining prevents scar tissues and helps with the improvement of the joints. Breathing retraining is a difficult process. Breathing retraining can be easily intellectually understood, but it takes considerable effort for oneself to improve. In general terms of time and efforts, if you are starting with 20 seconds for the body-oxygen level or the control pause test you can go to the norm of 40 seconds in 1 or 2 months. This is a very fast rate.

For some other students, it can take about half a year to reach 40 seconds. It depends on their age and weight. For someone that is practicing calisthenics, their improvement would be much faster because of their control of the body and a lot of enhanced functioning of the body. The practice of daily exercise greatly helps to have a higher body-oxygen level.

You can find more details about acrobatics, calisthenics and gymnastics breathing benefits here: https://www.normalbreathing.com/sports/calisthenics-acrobatics-gymnastics-benefits.php.

Volker has many students for a long time and he compares people that are solely bodybuilders to calisthenic students. The calisthenic students have a very large advantage in breathing retraining performance compared to bodybuilders. He would suggest for bodybuilders to include calisthenic exercises to enhance muscle functioning and to reduce scar tissue. Sometimes they like having bigger muscles, but they would not be as strong as people involved in calisthenics.

Get Amazing Shaolin Kung Fu Benefits With Breathing Retraining - Interview with Volker Schmitz

Practicing breathing retraining will allow you to practice Shaolin kung fu with intensity and joy. Volker Schmitz is a Shaolin kung fu teacher for over 15 years in Hamburg Germany. Dr. Artour Rakhimov is going to ask Volker questions about changes that occurred in people's unconscious or automatic breathing patterns during the last 100 years. As well as how it influences the practice of Shaolin kung fu. Finally, how practicing Shaolin kung fu can help regain our health and retrain our breathing patterns.

Kung fu is comparable to yoga. When it was developed in China, the breathing patterns of people were completely different. People breathed around 2 times less and they had more oxygen in their body. A hundred years ago if they trained this art they often trained very intensely and spent more time doing it. Only some people do this today. You do not have this fast recovery or regeneration nowadays because of people's breathing patterns.

People do not realize that meditation is at the center of Chinese martial arts. Meditation practice tremendously is improved from healthy breathing patterns. In older practices of yoga, before people start meditating they already have a few years of breathing training. In kung fu, breathing is also emphasized. Some better kung fu students can breathe through their nose during practice. Some kung fu movements are very intense and there can be acrobatics involved. It is very difficult to breathe through the nose. Most people would need 25 to 30 seconds for the body-oxygen test or the control pause test to perform this. Volker emphasizes to close the mouth and breathe through the nose during practice. It is not a traditional approach. When breathing is enhanced, concentration is enhanced as well.

At the top level of sports, mental concentration and visualization are emphasized. Many strenuous forms of kung fu can only be performed a specific amount of times because of their intensity. These require a high level of concentration. Hundreds of years ago people practiced kung fu differently.

More about Tai Chi Breathing Benefits: https://www.normalbreathing.com/tai-chi-benefits.php .

Many students that are beginners will only have 15 to 20 seconds for the CP test. These students have diseases and very little ability to exercise intensively. This can be related to their psychological state. They are less confident and more anxious. It is important to have the confidence to perform kung fu movements. Kung fu means skill in Chinese. Moving skills are often impaired. These students need a lot more time to learn the movements. People with a lower CP sleep much longer. With 60 seconds for the CP test, sleep is reduced to 3-4 hours and people have more time for exercise.

Shaolin kung fu is very intense. Volker needs to make it a lot easier because nowadays peoples body-oxygen levels are a lot less than when kung fu was invented. Higher CP levels will allow you to practice just as martial artists trained hundreds of years ago. Your practice also becomes enjoyable. You become sensitive to how you train and train from a positive state of mind.

Great Qigong Benefits Comes with ... Slower/Less Breathing 24/7 or Breath Retraining

Qigong and breathing exercises/retraining significantly benefit each other.

In this video, Dr. Artour Rakhimov and Volker discuss this topic. Volker is a qigong teacher for 15 years in Berlin. How can breathing retraining help people that practice qigong and how can qigong enhance our breathing and health? Dr. Artour Rakhimov focuses on unconscious or automatic breathing patterns. It is possible to measure it at sleep or at rest. How can these breathing patterns be changed? The meaning of qi in qigong could mean breath. Gong means skill. There seems to be a connection with breathing. Qi or Chi is energy. In qigong, there is a lot of work with relaxation and alignment with posture. Rooting is emphasized for grounding and diaphragmatic breathing. Proper qigong with correct form will lead to better breathing. Breathing is tested with the control pause test before and after practice. Volker's CP was much improved after a single practice of qigong.

What are common patterns of breathing? Most people are at 20 seconds on the CP test. This is a stage of diseases. Many qigong students initially have 20 seconds to 30 seconds. Hundreds of years ago people had 50 to 60 seconds. When qigong and yoga were started, beginners CP levels were much higher. People would begin qigong with a different approach. The biggest effect would be that your concentration would be enhanced. In China, they work with the projection of the mind or Yi into the body. It would be much stronger with a higher CP. It is about your ability to concentrate. Instead of following a strict practice your sensitivity improves and this helps to make your practice more individualized.

When people achieve 60 seconds for the body-oxygen test, your energy increases. Many of Volker's students do not train often. They still train every day and love their qigong practice. With 60 seconds for the CP test, sleep is shortened to 4 and a half hours naturally. You have 3 hours extra to exercise. There are other benefits to various areas. Regeneration is improved. Qigong has many strenuous exercises. Hormonal benefits assist balance that can help muscles and bones. There is a mutual relation between qigong and breathing. You can test your practice even of 20 to 30 minutes. This helps to see changes. You can measure your CP before and after practice. You should see changes. Do less strenuous qigong practice to test it. To achieve a high CP can take weeks or even months.

This web page from Normalbreathing site explains these mutual benefits that people experience from breathing retraining in relation to Tai Chi and Qigong practices: Tai Chi - Qigong Breathing Benefits - https://www.normalbreathing.com/tai-chi-benefits.php .

There are many lifestyle changes that would benefit people. Sleeping on the back has drastic effects for the CP. Also, mouth-breathing during sleep lowers it. Poor posture also weakens body-oxygen levels. Every morning your CP will restart if you don’t improve your sleep hygiene. Qigong could not anticipate all the changes that we would have in our present lifestyle from technology and other changes. Food is not organic. We can point out hundreds of factors which damage body-oxygen levels. It is best to get educated about breathing retraining from a practitioner. It can be quite difficult to analyze each lifestyle factor needed. Then people can go to the highest health states. There are many additional benefits that relate to breathing retraining.

Forgiveness (through NDT) Clears Rare Cases of Early Childhood And Other Traumas Cleared (NDT Cases) - Interview with Lynn Himmelman

-->
In this YouTube video, NDT practitioners Dr. Artour Rakhimov and Lynn Himmelman discuss emotional and childhood traumas and share rare NDT cases when the trauma does not necessarily relate to another person but to an object or organizations/institutions.

Unique features of the NDT and its forgiveness process help to address even such difficult cases when people (clients) do not remember their most traumatic life events (as it is the case with most emotinal traumas) or when emotional traumas involve objects. Here, Lynn Himmelman shares her story when emotional trauma was about separation of a child about 2-3 yo with her teddy bear. This object played a large role in the emotional life of a child. Going for a trip without her favorite toy was an emotional disaster for the child.

Dr. Artour recalled an unusual case shared with him by Dr. Netti who teaches the NDT in Houston (Texas, USA). Dr. Netti had an elderly women as a NDT client. This old women had emotional trauma related to her mother even though her mother died many years ago and their had great relationships with her mother all their lives. But something happened at very young age (when she was about 1-2 year old child or toddler). The NDT cleared this psychological trauma and allowed to restore peace of mind and easy breathing for this client. In other cases, even infant traumas can be cleared successfully.

Improve Endurance And VO2max Fast And Naturally With ... Breathing Retraining

YouTube link - improve cardio endurance fast and naturally.

Breathing retraining provides many amazing benefits to improve high-level cardiovascular endurance fast and naturally with an increase in VO2max for professional athletes and even beginners in long-distance running, cross-country skiing, triathlon, cycling and swimming.

Dr. Artour Rakhimov, a former individual coach of two World Champions (may years ago), is a breathing practitioner and trained world-class athletes and endurance athletes. How can breathing retraining help people that practice endurance sports? Such sports include triathlon, cycling, long-distance running and cross-country skiing. The effects are enormous because people will run and perform faster with breathing retraining. This occurs if they change their unconscious or automatic breathing patterns.

This is a tricky topic. People believe if they breathe more they get more oxygen. When people hyperventilate, we get less CO2 and this causes a constriction of blood vessels. Therefore, we get less oxygen. The hard part of training is if we breathe too much we get less CO2. We also get negative effects of oxygen delivery. Athletes do not forcibly try to hyperventilate. If they try to breathe too little that would create too much air hunger and oxygen would also not be delivered. The process of breathing retraining takes a lot of time.

If you take someone that is performing a moderate amount of exercise. For example, one hour of running. This average person takes about 3 hours to perform a marathon. If they practice breathing retraining they can shorten this time by 10 to 15 minutes. This occurs just by changing the way they breathe at rest. If someone over breathes at rest and this includes even top athletes, they breathe about 12 litres per minute. If they start running, their breathing intensifies by about 10 times, they breathe 120 litres per minute.

Yoga masters from hundreds of years ago would breathe about 4 litres per minute. There are medical studies that show people breathing from about 90 years ago. Many athletes have won races on the highest level with 100% breathing with the nose. If they breathe easily at rest and they have 50 to 60 seconds for the body-oxygen test, this makes it easy to perform nasal breathing and exercise at the same time. Many of Dr. Artour Rakhimov's top students changed their breathing and they started to enjoy exercise. When they start running, they naturally breathe through their nose without noticing it.

More about how to how to mprove cardiovascular endurance with breathing retraining - https://www.normalbreathing.com/cardiovascular-endurance.php .

Many athletes were studied in one race and about 3 people in a thousand were breathing through their nose. The rest were mouth-breathing.

Many sick people that achieve 50 to 60 seconds for the body-oxygen test or the control pause test, they can start doing long distancing running. They exercise for 2 to 3 hours a day with nasal breathing. They have a very quick recovery time. Their immune system functions better. Sleep improves to 4 and a half hours naturally. They have a lot of energy.

Breathing retraining would provide numerous and tremendous benefits to endurance athletes. It would take a lot of time to change these breathing patterns at rest. When achieving high levels for the CP test, it is best to gradually increase intensive exercise because the joints and other parts of the body have to get stronger as well.

Tai Chi Super Health Comes With Breathing Retraining: Up to Incredible 50-90 s for Body Oxygen Test

The practice of Tai Chi boasts body-oxygen levels and breathing retraining provides improvements in your Tai Chi practice - Tai Chi - Breathing Benefits. Volker Schmitz is a Tai Chi teacher for over 15 years.

In this video, Dr. Artour Rakhimov and Volker Schmitz discuss this topic: How do Tai Chi and breathing retraining benefit each other? Tai Chi depends a lot on the ability to breath a relatively small amount of air during practice. In Tai Chi, relaxation is focused on and structural corrections. Proper body positions balance the nervous systems. It provides a high-quality posture and helps with muscular tensions. This leads to better (easier and slower) breathing.

Volker measures his body-oxygen levels or his control pause before and after practice. He noticed that his oxygen increases with only doing his Tai Chi practice and doing no breath holding practice at the same time. There are mutual benefits to breathing retraining and Tai Chi. From his breathing practice, Volker lost weight and his concentration improved. For Tai Chi you need lots of concentration for the postures and the relaxation. Unconscious breathing improves a lot from Tai Chi. From breathing retraining, your concentration or mind force improves and it leads to more chi or more energy.

More about Tai Chi breathing benefits https://www.normalbreathing.com/tai-chi-benefits.php .

Many of Dr. Artour Rakhimov's students were Tai Chi students and they were among his best breathing students. They did a lot of practice around 5 to 6 times a week with 2 to 3-hour sessions of Tai Chi. It is very common for the general population that they hyperventilate or they breathe twice more than the medical norm. The average person is more prone to stress, anxiety, panic attacks and other negative emotions.

How would this hyperventilation influence the practice of Tai Chi? What would you see in these students? They can reach a decent level of Tai Chi. Many people have a CP of 20 or 25 seconds. This is instead of 40 to 60 seconds the medical norm or what most people had hundreds of years ago. After practice, they can have 30 to 35 seconds for the CP test. In the morning, if they practice they can improve their breathing for half the day or the whole day. Maybe during the night is when they lose all their progress during the night.

They will never reach the highest levels of breathing retraining and Tai Chi practice. This is due to sleep or other lifestyle factors. We want to change this and ideally when they start with 20 seconds, to later get 30, 40 seconds and so forth.

Their chi would be much stronger at those higher body-oxygen stages. Your reaction time would be much better at those higher levels. Their fighting skills would improve, as well as their posture and their ability to put their strength to use. Their energy would improve and their body regeneration. Also, their meditation practice and health would improve.

Volker's master of Tai Chi was not sick for over 30 years. This is quite common. The next thing is meditation. It feels really good. You can feel a harmonious energy in the body.

Males Can Also Suffer from First Love Breakups: Heal Relationship Traumas With NDT - Interview with Lynn Himmelman, NDT Master Trainer

Men that experienced a traumatic first love breakup in their relationships can grow from this with the help of the New Decision Therapy. - First love breakup for males

In this video, NDT teacher's Dr. Artour Rakhimov and Lynn discuss this topic. Guys can have a similar, as females, type of trauma related to their first love breakups in their relationships. Many men are struggling with this. Also, many men have been sexually assaulted. It could have been by an older woman or sometimes by another man. Collectively, male and female and whatever sexual preference someone is NDT applies to anyone that has gone through a trauma and is still feeling stuck in their lives.

Experiencing a traumatic situation with a first love relationship breakups or other events has a drastic effect on our body-oxygen levels due to increased breathing days and nights. When we participate in the New Decision Therapy, our emotional pain can be healed. This has a considerable effect on improving our mental and physical health as well with reduced symptoms for many chronic diseases. In the holistic view, our emotions are connected to our physical and mental well-being.

Being overwhelmed with emotions such as anxiety, fear, anger, guilt, depression and other similar emotions from a traumatic experience, such as first love-breakup for males and females, limit our potential to fully live.

These emotions are stored deeply in the subconscious from a traumatic event and they contribute to decreasing body-oxygen levels and a state of health. People that frequently experience these emotions tend to over-breathe when measuring their unconscious breathing patterns.

Overbreathing occurs by taking large frequent inhales and by mouth breathing. Overbreathing, because of reduced body oxygen content, encourages chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes, bronchitis, cancer and many other diseases to persist. That leads to an overall decline in people's state of health. This creates a cycle where their poor physical makes it harder to have clarity, positive emotions and to concentrate.

Dr. Artour Rakhimov, apart from teaching the NDT to his breathing students, focuses on slowing down unconscious breathing patterns and this improves your state of physical health. Improving body-oxygen levels will limit any damage created by traumatic past experiences. With an increase in body-oxygen levels, there is an increase of positive emotions and it becomes easier to concentrate and increase your clarity.

The medical norm for breathing is 40 seconds according to the control pause test or your body-oxygen levels. These levels will create a resiliency to face any stressors. Also, the willingness to balance life is greatly improved. People with body-oxygen levels of 40 to 60 seconds experience many health benefits such as sleeping less, having more energy and having a desire to exercise. These benefits help to further increase body-oxygen levels and minimize the effects of negative emotions on our well-being.
