SAMA Interview with Dr. Artour Rakhimov: Defeat Any Lifestyle Diseases with Breathing Retraining

[SAMA] Episode 143: How to Defeat Lifestyle Diseases with Breathing Retraining - Health Therapy that Always Works
The interviewer was John White, https://www.rifetherapies.com/

Topics related to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 (coronavirus) infection with breathing retraining and the Buteyko Method are also discussed.

In this video interview with John White, we learn that many of our diseases of civilization are first and foremost caused by overbreathing, or hyperventilation. Unfortunately, there is a culturally conditioned belief that hyperventilation causes greater oxygenation of tissues and organs in the body. On the surface, this stands to sense, as it would appear correct that the more oxygen we take into the body, the more oxygenation will occur. In reality, however, by ventilating more air per minute in and out of the body, we release more carbon dioxide from the bloodstream and lungs. The result of this can be extrapolated from the famous Bohr effect. From the Bohr effect we know the following; the higher the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood, the more readily oxyhemoglobin (a constituent of blood when bound to oxygen) releases its oxygen into cells, tissues, and organs as it passes them. Therefore, if we breathe this carbon dioxide out of the body, there is less available to cause the release of oxygen from oxyhemoglobin and consequently, surrounding cells, tissues and organs don't receive this oxygen and become deoxygenated or hypoxic.

Thanks to the work of Dr. Buteyko however, it has become apparent to many thousands of people that their health can be improved through breathing retraining techniques such as reduced breathing exercises as well as physical exercise (if they are healthy enough to exercise, which most people are, though exercise is not recommended for those with Myalgic encephalopathy / systemic exercise intolerance disorder) all done with nose and diaphragmatic breathing. Diaphragmatic breathing simply means that we breathe into the lower region of our lungs so that our stomach slowly and gently moves forward on the inhale (in the initial stages of breathing retraining when we see and feel the effects of our breathing – as we increase our body's carbon dioxide tolerance, less ventilation of air and therefore breathing is required and the sensations of breathing gradually reduce and become almost or totally imperceptible). The lower part of the ribcage may also move during diaphragmatic breathing, but the shoulders will not rise as we inhale. This type of breathing (nose plus diaphragm) should be our baseline form of breathing as it encourages maximal cellular oxygenation and retention of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream and lungs.

The general health of our body can be determined by a simple breath-holding test called the Control Pause:

After a normal inhalation and exhalation (without restraining or increasing breathing) hold your breath and wait for the first sign of discomfort. This may either be the first urge to breathe or a physical, muscular contraction of the lower respiratory muscles. The stomach will suddenly contract and likely pull inward towards the spine. The time taken before this urge or contraction is called the control pause and is an indicator of your general health. The lower it is, the less cellular oxygenation is occurring within your body. It is possible that the first few times this control pause is taken, that one may unwittingly hold their breath for too long and get a higher result than is genuine. Just remember that it is to be done after a normal inhalation and exhalation and until the first sign of discomfort, no more.

Control pauses of 10 seconds and below indicate moderate to severe health conditions with probable use of medication. Between 10-20 seconds and there are mild to moderate health complications. Between 20-40 seconds and the person is considered healthy by most modern doctors (even though they don't measure the control pause, still they would normally find blood parameters within healthy limits). At around 40 seconds, a person would be considered healthy 100 years ago. And at 60 seconds, they would have what Dr. Buteyko considered the norm.

IHHT for Health: History and Application (Interview with Dr. Arkadi Prokopov about Hypoxic Training)

In this video, Dr. Artour Rakhimov interviews Dr. Arkadi Prokopov about his knowledge, work, and experience with IHHT. The topics they discuss in this video include negative lifestyle factors in relation to the what the Buteyko method teaches and how the unawareness of these factors could negatively impact there recovery/healing progress of people using IHHT, how combining breathing retraining (the Buteyko method) and IHHT can create a strong synergistic effect for various conditions and how this training may also help people with tough cases. Dr. Arkadi Prokopov gives a brief description of his life and background, the importance of mitochondrial health and how this can be a major factor in your current state of health. Dr. Arkadi gives a detailed history of IHHT including the early developments after the second world war concerning fighter jet pilots and the task of adapting their bodies to hypoxic environments with hyperbaric chambers to improve problems related to flying at high altitudes, how doctors monitored these pilots health and noticed that their chronic health conditions improved, how years of substantial research and work of physicians, engineers, bio-medical specialists led to the creation of Intermittent Hypoxic Training (IHT), the advantages of IHT compared to Hyperbaric chambers, the basics of IHT and how it works and the current uses of IHT/IHHT including improving athletic performance, treatment and recovery of chronic health conditions, rehabilitation after for example surgery and to slow down the normal aging process. How mitochondria work within the body, the development of hyperoxic training combined with hypoxic training, his role within this, how this differs from normal IHT and how adding hyperoxic air improves the effectiveness of the training. What a typical session or protocol of IHHT including the length of time, cycles/intervals of hypoxic and hyperoxic air, individualization due to the sensitivity and tolerance to hypoxia in different people, how sick people often having low tolerances to hypoxia and the development of hypoxic adaptation. How nearly all conditions can be improved with IHHT as it improves mitochondria health as well as other important mechanisms within the body. He also delves into specific conditions and how IHHT can improve them and explains conditions in which the treatment is not usable. He also discusses how to optimize mechanisms in the immune system to better discover and defeat pathologies such as viruses, bacteria, and yeast, etc. with IHHT, an explanation of Lyme disease and how it develops, how IHHT improves brain function and CNS disorders such as psychiatric disorders, neurological conditions specifically addictions and the mechanism behind them, types of mitochondrial problems such as damage, mutations, dysfunction and how these differ, etc. and lastly the positive effects of using cold exposure/therapy and how it improves mitochondrial function and overall health. Run Marathon 30 Min Faster With Breathing Retraining

In this video Dr. Artour Rakhimov, author, breathing retraining practitioner and coach of 2 world champions will explain how people can improve their marathon times by up to 30 minutes using breathing retraining. He will explain how this is possible and will discuss various topics that will back up and describe his claim. The topics discussed in this video will be, average marathon times during the last years, his past years working with various athletes at all different levels, how if people can reduce there breathing by 2-3 times they can often see huge benefits in running times and how he is also aware not everyone will see such huge improvements, for example, elite and professional runners who have trained for years at a high level as there have often optimized there performance so much already. If we measure the average persons breathing parameters in correspondence with the Buteyko table of health zones today, we will often see they are around health level 3 and how people 100 years ago often had better parameter on average and how these low levels mean people have low oxygen level in the body on a cellular level. He will dive into breathing parameters, measurements, the importance of nose breathing for health and better results and how and why people use there mouth or nose during physical exercise How breathing slower and less improves body oxygenation, the cp test, how to achieve nose breathing during physical exercise. Dr. Artour also explains how the Buteyko method/breathing retraining was first developed for severely sick people and how if we apply efforts and achieve high health levels and slower breathing in correspondence with the table he has found the therapy will always work in reducing symptoms and need for medication. Lastly, he will also briefly go into topics such as Dr. Buteyko’s golden standard of health, how if people achieve better health levels their oxygen delivery to tissues will be dramatically improved, how if we improve health levels physical exercise will become less of a chore and people will begin to crave it and how it can become totally easy. If you would like to learn more head over to normalbreathing.org and have a look at scientific research and numbers he mentions and If you want to improve your marathon times you can retrain your breathe and see the amazing results for yourself. Biggest Misconception of Buteyko Method: Physical Exercise vs. Breathwork

So what is the illusion? The illusion is although it may seem the Buteyko method is based on just breathing exercises. In reality, if we look at the life of a student, although they may spend a lot of time at the beginning on breathing exercises to make progress once they achieve higher health levels physical exercise becomes the main factor in terms of there progress and long term success years down the line. Therefore the Buteyko method is more about physical exercise than just doing breathing exercises. How to Define Health Levels Using Buteyko Table of Health Zones

Dr. Artour Rakhimov talks about the development of the Buteyko Health Levels as rows of the Buteyko Table of Health Zones. It tells the details such as the year in which the first Buteyko Table was developed and when it was updated most recently with Health Levels.

Dr. Artour Rakhimov helps people to get an understanding of how were the Buteyko health levels developed. It also gives a brief description of the Buteyko Health Levels - https://www.normalbreathing.com/blog/buteyko-health-levels/ . The duration of the video is 10 minutes in total.

The advantages of using the Buteyko Health Levels have been discussed in this video for the students and doctors who wish to follow it or use these health levels for their own understanding. The Buteyko Table of Health Zones was initially created in the 1960s by doctor Buteyko, which was patented in the 1990s by the Russian Intellectual Property Agency and was ultimately published in the year 2001. Dr. Artour Rakhimov further explains that the Table was created in order to place different people in various health zones in accordance with their health levels based on the body oxygen test which is also known as the Buteyko CP (control pause) test.

Dr. Artour Rakhimov also shows the different zones and levels of health in accordance with the Table created by doctor Buteyko - https://www.normalbreathing.com/index-buteyko-table-of-health-zones.php . The original Table or the initial form of the table had levels in the negative (with the minus) numbers as well.  However, with time there were several changes which were made in this Table and after all these changes the latest Table which is being used by all the people who believe in these Health Zones is described by in-depth in the video.

The super Health Levels which are 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are also discussed. While it is shown that number 7 or Health Level 7 indicates that health is normal and that there is no need for any kind of medication. However, if the Health Level is said to be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 it is said that the person`s health is not normal and that there can be a requirement of some medication or treatment. Health Level 3 and Health Level 4 (over 90% of modern people) indicate poor health with symptoms, long sleep, low energy, and other health challenges.

Dr. Artour Rakhimov also explains some of the important historical facts about the Buteyko Table. It is mentioned that at the time when these Health Zones were first introduced by doctor Buteyko, there were a variety of Health Levels actually present, therefore, there for people who came under the super Health Levels such as 8 ,9, 10 , 11, and 12 and similarly, there were people who had quite poor health and had to be rated down in the negative side of the original Table which existed at that time.

Dr. Artour Rakhimov further explains that many students who worked on their health had to use negative numbers to describe their progress from poor to better health. These students were given a free hand by the doctor and they were encouraged to provide testimonials. These students were asked to post their results so others could benefit from it.

Breathing Retraining Process and Buteyko Method: How To Get Cured from Chronic Diseases Dr Artour Rakhimov

In this video, Dr. Artour Rakhimov and Volker Schmitz discuss the relation of the general breathing retraining and the Buteyko breathing method. To learn the Buteyko technique and retrain one's breath, students use this page: http://www.normalbreathing.com/learn.php .

Volker directs the conversation to the historical breathing patterns that are expanded on Dr. Artour Rakhimov's website Normalbreathing.com. Different breathing patterns are compared from various centuries. Dr. Artour Rakhimov points out that his website contains historical graphs. There are studies that show how much people were breathing according to their minute ventilation. The studies show how much a person breaths at rest in one minute. They are based on 24 medical studies and they start as early as the 1920's. The studies show that ordinary people would breathe 4 to 5 litres of air per minute. This is a tiny amount compared to the amount of air people breathe today. In today's age, people breathe about 12 litres per minute using the same type of measurements. This is twice the amount of air that people breathed 100 years ago.

When people breathe more air, they receive less oxygen in their cells. This is proved in hundreds of physiological studies. 99 percent of the population receive less oxygen because of over breathing. It is a myth that if you take a big breath you will receive more oxygen. Hyperventilation is defined as anything above the medical norm according to Dr. Artour Rakhimov. People do not notice that they breathe 2 to 3 times above the medical norm. When people breathe 4 to 5 times more than the medical norm, either they will remember that they over breathe or people around them will tell them. This usually occurs during epilepsy, a heart attack, an asthma attack and other serious health conditions.

Dr. Buteyko in his last year as a medical student noticed that sick people breathe too much air. Also, he was curious about how oxygen gets delivered to tissues. He experimented to train sick people to breathe according to the medical norm. It allowed them to have slower and easier breathing. They would get more oxygen and this would reverse various health conditions. This would occur by them changing their unconscious breathing patterns, as the central part of the Buteyko method. The method works not just by doing breathing exercises, but by changing overall breathing patterns throughout the day.

Dr. Buteyko had only three patents. One related to measurements of the control pause and its relation to breathing. Another was his reduced breathing exercise. According to Dr. Artour Rakhimov, the last one was the most important. Dr. Artour Rakhimov calls it the Buteyko table of health. It shows the connection to breath holding time and the correlated health state. The table goes from sick to super health states. The breath holding time relates to CO2 levels in the body. It also relates to the heart rate which gets lower the higher health state you have. More about the Buteyko Table of Health Zones: http://www.normalbreathing.com/index-buteyko-table-of-health-zones.php .

One previous point in the lecture was that breathing less provides people with more oxygen. Another important point to consider is, “Do you realize that you breathe more than the medical norm?”. Hyperventilating goes unnoticed for most people. Volker directs the conversation to how people breathed less historically and that not many doctors are discussing this. According to Dr. Artour Rakhimov, this change occurred as a natural process in theBuetyko method. Additionally, in medical schools where they train doctors, they are not provided at all with the info on how to change breathing patterns. Fortunately, it is possible to change breathing patterns. Also, the most important point is to find out what direction to go in.

Buteyko Practitioner Training Testimonial (by Misha Sakharoff)

Misha Sakharoff Testimonial about His Buteyko Practitioner Training and Courses with Dr. Artour Rakhimov

This is a video testimonial from  a Buteyko breathing teacher and educator Misha Sakharoff (http://sakharoff.com/), who lives near Copenhagen, Denmark. Misha Sakharoff tells us about his experiencec about his breathing Buteyko trainer Dr. Artour Rakhimov (http://www.normalbreathing.com/)

Misha Sakharoff says that he got a lot of inspiration from Artour Rakhimov and discovered new ideas and techniques related to exercise, sleep, diet, and other lifestyle factors. All these factors help to slow down breathing at rest and increase body oxygen levels to higher numbers. This causes a profound effect on easing or disappearance of symptoms and chronic diseases.

Slower breathing and better body oxygenation is a great natural home remedy that helps people with blocked or stuffy nose, chronic cough (even at night), insomnia, constipation, and many other common symptoms. However, the main power of breathing retraining (permanent changes in automatic breathing patterns) relates to its ability to cure or treat chronic diseases. Breathing exercises are similar to ancient meditation mindfulness methods.

Misha Sakharoff currently specializes on application of breathing retraining to cancer (oncology) and other serious health problems while cooperating with medical doctors and health specialists.

Buteyko Practitioner Training (Testimonial by Volker Schmitz)

Volker Schmitz Testimonial about His Classes and Courses (Buteyko Practitioner Training) with Artour Rakhimov

This is video testimonial from Volker Schmitz (http://www.atmungnormal.de/), a Buteyko breathing practitioner from Hamburg, Germany. His testimonial is about his classes with his breathing teacher Dr. Artour Rakhimov (http://www.normalbreathing.com/)

Volker Schmitz tells that he was quite healthy at the beginning of his breathing retraining. However, he still experienced many benefits from getting 60 seconds for the morning CP (control pause) or body oxygen test.

These benefits included naturally short sleep (less than 4 hours in his case), increased emotional stability, faster recovery from strenuous exercise and other health effects. For good sleep hygiene tips see www.normalbreathing.com/good-sleep-hygiene.php.

Breathing retraining also helps to people with diseases of civilization of chronic diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and many others.
